Embedded excel table zooms in when edited

I have a word document with an embedded word table which on a windows 7 machine running office 2010 behaves as expected but when I open the table and make a change or even when I close it without making a change on a windows 10 machine running O365 for business it zooms in so that the whole table is no longer visible.  I've googled for an answer but haven't found anything yet that works.  All help gratefully received

From your description, when you connect your laptop to the external monitor, the issue occurs. The cause for the issue may be related to screen resolution. Please provide a screenshot about the Display Settings for your laptop, both before connecting to the external monitor and after the connection.
