Document in Word Startup folder doesn't open when Word 14 (Office Home and Student 2010) starts

I have a docx file in the Word 2010 startup folder, C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup. When Word launches, a blank document opens but not the file in the startup folder. I verified it is a trusted location. What else do I need to do to make that file open when Word starts? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. My name is Charles and I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have authored help articles on the Microsoft site.

That is not the purpose of the Word Startup Folder. Here is my page on that folder:

Placing a template, not a document, in the Startup Folder loads it as a Global Template, making that template's resources available when you are using Word.

If you want to open a particular document when you start Word the simplest thing is to put a shortcut to the document on your desktop and use that to start Word.

Otherwise, you could record a macro named AutoExec that opens the document.

I hope this information helps.
