Different skin emojis showing as yellow with skin tone in box next to it (Word for Mac)

Thanks for posting thread in Microsoft community.

I go through your description and test on my mac, do you mean no matter what kind and what color of emojis you choose, after you insert them in a word document, they turn into yellow(the default one) and there are color boxes next to them?

If I understand your description correctly, I'm having the same issue during my test on mac. I feel sorry for the inconvenience caused by this problem and you can post a thread in this page to feedback this problem, this will help the Word Team improve the application and users' experience.

Since this issue is related to both Office client and macOS, so you may also feedback this issue to Apple. As you mentioned this issue happened in not only Word, but also other Office applications, you can feedback this issue in any Office client through Help>Give Feedback. I'm having the same problem. Monterey 12.5, Word 16.63.1. It started sometime between March and June 2022.

Here's an example of four emojis from a PDF of a document I created in Word in March 2022.

It is no longer possible to display any of these emojis in Microsoft Word. For the man with curly hair, I get three icons. For teachers I now get three icons.

In other applications on my computer, the above displays as:

Please fix ASAP.
