Copy-paste from Acrobat to Word produces italicized text

A new behavior is puzzling me: when I copy and paste text from Acrobat DC Pro (any file) to Word, it comes out in Italics. Is there a reason? I want Roman characters (no itals). Paste Special gets around the problem, but not as quickly as selecting and de-italicizing the pasted text. This never was a problem, but now is.

I asked about this in the Acrobat forum; no answers so far.

Using lateest Word, Acrobat DC Pro and Monterey.

Thanks.

When it gets to the Word document, what font is being used for the text? Is that font an OTF font on your computer? If so, that's why. Word and PowerPoint have a bug in them that can read the regular (or Roman) version of OTFs as italic.

Times New Roman, which shows up as OTF and TTF in Font Book. (I assume it is both at once?)

Oddly, this does not happen on my intel machine only in the M1 (otherwise same apps, same fonts, and same OS)

Thanks.

The font book entry shows that you have both the OTF and TTF versions of Times New Roman installed. The TTF is probably from Microsoft, the OTF from Apple. Unfortunately, I don't have an M1 machine on which to test.

There are often software hiccups when moving from one chip type to another. Here's how to report your issue to Microsoft:

  1. Create a page in Word that shows screenshots of the Acrobat original and the Word result.

  2. Click on the "person with speech balloon" icon in the upper right of the program window.

  3. Choose I don't like something.

  4. Describe the problem in detail and include a screenshot of your page.

  5. Submitting sends a bug report to the Mac programming team. They are unlikely to respond.

What would happen if I downloaded fonts (TT) and replaced those in my Library? Is that 'dangerous' to mess with? I'm not even sure where one should go to download reliable versions of TNR.

BTW, I am not sure this is MS Word specific; it happens pasting into Apple Mail messages too. I will try again with the Acrobat folks. Many thanks.
