converting automatic numbering to text

Is it possible to type a word document using the automatic numbering function, but then convert that automatic numbering into text AND keep the original formatting?

Hopefully someone has an answer as I've spent ages searching and can't find an answer.

Thank you.
Hi

Yes, using the vba command:
activedocument.ConvertNumbersToText

There is also a "Convert List to Text" command you can add to the QAT.

I don't appear to have this option in my QAT list unfortunately.  Sounds like it would be just what I need.

I did not check when I first saw that from Rohn007, but, having now checked, I believe that he must have been smoking something.

Here is the command highlighted in my QAT.  It works, I tested

I don't have a macro with that name.

I couldn't find the command in the 2010 or 2016 all commands list.

There definitely is something funky going on ... a MS (dis)"improvement"?

Color me confused too ...

If you have a numbered list in a document, you might want to convert it to regular, non-dynamic text and not lose the numbers that are in the list. This tip explains a couple of techniques you can use to accomplish the task.

Converting Automatic Numbering to Manual Numbering

The automatic numbering that Word lets you apply to paragraphs in your document can create some great looking content, but it can play havoc with your file if you import it into another program. Here's how to get rid of the automatic numbering, but still retain the numbers.

Thanks heaps.  What version do you have to have the Convert List Text command?

The second link you posted solved the problem.  Thank you :)

The question is what version did I have when I added the command. It's been on my QAT for a LONG time.  I put it there, but since I can no longer find the command in 2010 or 2016 in the "All Commands" list I don't know where it came from.  The button still works, so the command still exists in the program, but the button apparently has been removed from the list.  Go figure.

Are you sure that the button is not running a macro that commands the ConvertNumberstoText command?
