Changing the proofing language in OneNote

Hello,

I am a Dutch student using the office suite for both my studies as my work. For my work, I often write notes in English, for school I switch back to Dutch again. I have not found an easy and quick function in OneNote to switch the languages of the workbook, section, or page like this is possible in for example Word.

Would anyone have a solution for me as to how I can quickly switch between languages, without having to change the entire array of settings within both OneNote and my Windows 10 configuration?

Much obliged.

Hi Caspar,

The feature to enable a different proofing language for the whole notebook is not yet available for OneNote 2016. However, there are still ways on how to manage and change your language. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open OneNote
  2. Click File and go to Options.
  3. Select Language.
  4. Under Choose Editing Languages, select English on Add additional editing languages and click Add.
  5. Select English and click Set as Default.
  6. Click Yes to continue.
  7. Changes will take effect after restarting OneNote.

Make sure that your preferred language is installed on your computer for the settings to take effect. To ensure that the language is installed, please follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Type Language and press Enter.
  3. If the language is not yet added, click Add a language.
  4. Select the language you want to add and click Add.

You can also check this link for the options on how to change the language on your Office installation.

Please get back to us and let us know if the suggested steps will work.

Thank you.

Hi Anna,

I have the same issue - unfortunately the approach does not fix the issue.

I have set the proofing language to English (and even deleted Danish from the available languages), yet any new text field or sheet I open uses Danish as proofing language.

My input language (on the OS basis) is set to Danish as I have a Danish keyboard - so I cannot really change that without messing all my input up. Might that be the issue? And if so, is there any way around?

Hi Verena,

Allowing to change the proofing language is one of the features of OneNote. To better isolate your issue, we'd like to know if you've tried performing Repair an Office application.

We're looking forward to your response.
