Change my 'Default Currency Symbol' to the new Indian Rupee

I want to change my 'Default Currency Symbol' to the new 'Indian Rupee'.
I have this symbol in the Character map.
I tried to do it in the regional setteings under Controle panel.
But I get only a '₹' instead?. Even if I copy and paste the Rupee sumbol from the character map only'₹' appears.
If I type 'controle'+'Alt'+4, the Rupee symbol appears in a cell in Excel. I can insert the symbol in Word, but can never type.
How can I rectify this?

Hi,

You need to install this update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2496898

Take a look at http://daxserver.com/how-to-type-indian-rupee-symbol-in-ms-word/ for detailed instructions.

Hi,

Sorry, I just realised that you are the same person to whom I provided this answer to a while ago:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-customize/india-rupee-symbol/f97b6391-d879-4073-b21f-7abb507227c5

Did that answer not work for you?  Or did you forget you had asked this before???

Cheers
Rich

Thank you very much

I do not think I have to install this update because it belongs to the specified list of OSs.

Please see the list OSs against this update.

Windows 8.1 is not included.

So I assume that it the facility is there already. My PC is set for automatic updating.

Next

I tried all those changes suggested with control panel > Region > Additional settings > Currency.

-The symbol is very much there in front of me

But when I type in word or format a column in Excel it is either a '' or 'a question mark' with in a ''.

You're probably right, but maybe there's a different update for W8????

I tried all those changes suggested with control panel > Region > Additional settings > Currency.

But when I type in word or format a column in Excel it is either a '₹' or 'a question mark' with in a '₹'.

Have you found any reason why the '?' appears?  Any pattern to what you type???

 - what did you do to get just the '₹'

 - what did you do to get '?₹'

Sorry, I don't have W8 and I don't want to have this symbol as a default on my PC, so I can't do any testing on this...

Cheers
Rich
