Can't use 'customize shortcut'

Hey there! I downloaded Excel on my Macbook air. When I go to the 'customize shortcut' page, the 'add' and 'remove' buttons are grey so I can't add any shortcuts. Can anyone please teach me how to solve this issue? Thanks so much!

Answer

The Remove button is inactive unless one or more custom shortcuts already exist for the selected command. IOW, ir remains dimmed if there is no assigned shortcut to remove. It remains dimmed if there is a default shortcut selected whci cannot be removed.

The Assign button doesn't become active until you select a command then click in or Tab to the Press new keyboard shortcut field & press the combination of keys you want to assign.
