Can't open MS Word 2011 anymore. MacOS Mojave

Though I have read that Word 2011 isn't compatible with Mojave, I have been using it till recently. It will no longer open.

Does anyone know a workaround? I hardly ever use it and hate to pay for a yearly subscription for all those apps.

Thanks,

Jane

Mac Office 2011 is compatible with macOS 10.14.6 [Mojave]... I'm using it here. However, it is a discontinued version of the software which will not receive any further updates. If you are, in fact, still using Mojave but Office 2011 isn't operating there is something more to the story. Confirm that Office is fully updated [14.7.7 is the final version] & that Mojave is current as well [10.14.6].

If you continue to have a problem please reply with complete & accurate details including anything else that has changed on your Mac coincident with the current issue regardless of whether it seems to be unrelated.

It is macOS 10.15.x [Catalina] which no longer supports 32-bit software. There is nothing that can be done to make Office 2011 or any other 32-bit software run on that version of the operating system.

I second Bob's observation: Office 2011 will run under Mojave, but not Catalina. When it stops working, I normally re-install, but that's gradually been getting more difficult. You can only activate by telephone now. If you choose to go that route, here are Microsoft's instructions for a complete uninstall, a necessary precursor to re-installing.

I can't seem to find the version you're talking about. I went to this page and put in my product key, which I miraculously have and it only gives me 14.5.2.

I downloaded and reinstalled it and it launches part way and then the "Microsoft Error Reporting" icon bounces in the doc and never opens and says anything.

Please try this link to update from whatever version you get: Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.7.7 Update

The beach ball problem has been reported. I'm having trouble finding the exact post (the beach ball was a very common problem with 2011), but leave it running overnight. I believe it eventually figures it out.

Well, I had high hopes with that updater link you sent. It still doesn't work.

I am on Mojave 10.14.3. I don't know if that's the issue. I can't update to the version suggested. I'd have to go full Catalina.

The error box keeps coming up. I trashed the original software, downloaded and installed it. Restarted. Then downloaded the update and installed it. Still doesn't work. I haven't made any changes to my computer that I can think of. This is the second time I've been through this.

I do have Apple Pages. I might have to go that route.

John, did you mean to include a link to the phone call help?

Thanks for the help folks.

Office 2011 is now activated by phone. The software doesn't work until it's activated. After you install, then try to open an Office program, it should walk you through activation and display the number to call. I didn't mention telephone help.

I don't understand what you mean by this:

I can't update to the version suggested. I'd have to go full Catalina.

The 10.14.6 update for Mojave should be applicable to any installation of that release of macOS. IOW, any Mac capable of running Mojave i the first place can handle any version updates supplied for it.

Adopting a completely different edition of macOS isn't even a consideration because Office 2011 would not be compatible.

Thanks. I should have looked deeper into whether I can get the 10.14.6 update. When I clicked on updates under the Apple icon, it forces me to upgrade to Catalina. I'm on 10.14.3.

Instead of System Preferences>Software Update, please try App Store>Updates. That should show you the updates for Mojave instead of the Catalina upgrade.

I did find the update but unfortunately I can't install it because my drive isn't APFS formatted. I figured out how to do it but it'll require wiping my drive and reinstalling a clone of all my files. What a pain. I'm not sure it's worth it just to see if Word works!
