Can't open 2010 Powerpoint Presentation in 2007 or 2013

My professor has posted several powerpoint presentations on our class page that I have tried downloading. Every time I try to open it, this message pops up

Then when I try to open the file, it tells me that I do not have the correct software to open it.

Shouldn't I be able to open it in my Powerpoint 2013?? I have also tried to open it in Powerpoint 2007 and had the same result.

VERY FRUSTRATED!! PLEASE HELP!!
First thing to try is download from the internet page to your computer HD, then use File Open from inside of PowerPoint.  That should work.

The problem you are describing sounds like one that MANY people have asked about on the forum. It appears to have been caused by the September Windows Updates.

Try doing an Office repair of your Office 2013 installation:

As computer scientists we are trained to communicate with the dumbest things in the world – computers –
so you’d think we’d be able to communicate quite well with people.
