Can't install Office 365 on OSX 10.13.6 (Education)

A bit new to Microsoft Office 365 - My daughter has to work from home for her school work - she can download the education version of 365 fine but when the installer open it says 'This software requires macOS version 10.13.0 or later.'  then closes - but we have 10.13.6.  so should be absolutely fine - am i missing something? Driving me nuts.

Thanks for any help!

Answer

Hi Binny,

Sorry for the confusion caused in the error message obtained.

Generally, Office applications are supported on the three latest version of macOS and since there is a new update released at both macOS i.e., Big Sur and Microsoft Office application i.e., 16.44, the latest version of Microsoft Office applications 16.44 is supported on macOS 10.14, 10.15 and Big Sur.

When you install the Office applications from the Office portal provided by university, the latest Production version of Office apps will be downloaded i.e., 16.44 (20121301). As the latest version requires one of macOS 10.14, 10.15 and Big Sur, that’s the reason you are not able to install.

Since you are using the macOS 10.13, I request you download the Office application version 16.43 from the official release notes: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Docs and activate the Office applications by signing with the education account.

In addition, please prevent updating the Office applications automatically by unchecking the option to auto update Office in Microsoft AutoUpdate. Reference: Update Office for Mac automatically - Office Support (microsoft.com)

Appreciate your understanding and patience. Have a good day and Happy New Year 😊

Best Regards,

Chitrahaas
