Cannot set up gmail account in Outlook 2010 Professional using Windows 7

Hello,

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I just recently set up a customers gmail account in Outlook 2010 Professional with out any problems. But, now when I try to set my own up I get all kinds of error messages. The auto set up does not work with or without encryption. I have IMAP and POP enabled on my gmail account, and I am entering the username and password very carefully and correctly

I have one email, from Comcast, already set up and completed with the auto setup. With that email account I can send and receive emails fine with Outlook.

I've tried using the information from many of the Microsoft Community forums I have even used:

https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?rd=1#ts=1665018,1665137,2769074
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17248/set-up-gmail-imap-in-outlook-2010/
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17314/add-your-gmail-account-to-outlook-2010-using-pop/

I have tried using POP and IMAP, nothing has made it work. I have manualy configured the incoming server encrypted connection to SSL and port 993 and I have tried using outgoing server encrypted connection of TSL or SSL on port 587 or 465. I am using imap.gmail.com as the IMAP and smtp.gmail.com as the SMTP, I even tried imap.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com.

Here are the error messages I get:

"Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): The connection to the server was interrupted. If
this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
 (ISP).
Sent test e-mail message: Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name
and password for this account in Account Settings."

"Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): The connection to the server has failed.
Sent test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP)."

"Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): The connection to the server was interrupted. If
this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
 (ISP).
Sent test e-mail message: The operation timed out while waiting for a response from the
sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)."

Do I need to delete my Comcast email and add the gmail one first?

Please help!

Thank You

EDIT 2/7/15:

So I moved and now it works fine. I have both my Comcast email and my gmail in my outlook.

You don't need to delete Comcast to make it work. What happens if you use Auto account setup and let outlook set up the account for you?

The first thing I tried was the auto account setup. But, the auto account setup does not work with or without encryption.

Network connection - COMPLETE
Searching for *** Email address is removed for privacy *** server settings - FAILED

Error message: An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available.
Click next to attempt an unencrypted connection.

Network connection - COMPLETE
Searching for *** Email address is removed for privacy *** server settings (unencrypted) - FAILED

Manuel configuration is required. And my original post has the details of what I did.

Thank you.

I know autocomplete works perfectly for gmail. I also know Comcast is rolling out email security-  AFAIK, it was just to port 25 and make Comcast mail users use 587, but they could be doing more to block SMTP traffic - but it makes no sense to block IMAP.

Try a new profile - close Outlook, go to control panel, search for Mail and create a new profile with just the gmail account. Does it work? If not, it's not the Comcast email account causing problems.

Yeah, I tried it many times. Did the exact thing you said to try. Still no gmail connection. Neither encrypted or unencrypted worked.

I got some screen shots today of the issues:

So by what you have said, I figure it is a comcast problem? I am using comcast as my ISP.....

Yeah, if we have two people with the same problem and both use the same isp... I suspect there is a connection. :)

Comcast shouldn't be blocking the ports gmail uses but I know they do block port 25. I don't see any recent complaints in a quick search though.

Could it be your firewall or router? I'd probably try resetting the router/modem.

 Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
Use Port: 995 and SSL (More Settings, Advanced tab)

Incoming server: imap.gmail.com
Use port 993, SSL (More Settings, Advanced tab)

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
Use Port 587, Use TLS (More Settings, Advanced tab)
Require Authentication (Outgoing Server tab)

Yep, still nothing. I'm going to have a word with comcast. This simple of a thing should not be so difficult and frustrating.

Also, firewall my is allowing all outlook connections.

It has to be comcast....

I am having the same problem adding gmail and I don't have a comcast account added. I am using windows 8 though instead of windows 7 but all the connection problems are the same for me as well.

Hi,
I was facing the same problem until i read the error pop up message , which said 'Application specific password required ................................' . In an instance the whole ordeal came to a meaningful end. You just need to generate a application specific password for the application (our case outlook) from your google account and log in with this password at imap.gmail.com log-in pop-up.

If i am not yet clear just follow https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en and that ends your ordeal.
Thanks

HI

I also facing the same issue. Spend a lot of time testing, telnet etc.

Found out is is because of 2-step verification issue.

Just disable it. Then everything running OK.
