Cannot delete multiple files/folders in onedrive online

Hi,

When trying to delete multiple files or folders in onedrive online the delete fails with the error message

"X items weren't deleted"

There is no further information

If I switch to OneDrive Classic I can delete the files with no problems.

thanks

Dear PlantHead,

As you can delete the files in the classic UI in the OneDrive for Business library and the files should be deleted as well when you go to the modern UI in the OneDrive for Business library,  I’d like you to restore the files and then do a test again in the modern UI in the OneDrive for Business library to see if you can delete the files at one time.

Meanwhile, check whether the issue only happens when you delete the specific files in the modern UI in the OneDrive for Business library. If you delete other files, will the issue happen?

Moreover, I suggest you use another browser which hasn’t been used already to see if you can delete the files in the modern UI in the OneDrive for Business library.

About the issue, could you upload some related screenshots?

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Best Regards,

Cliff

Hi

I have restored the deleted files from within the classic GUI and from modern UI and then tried to delete the restored files.

In the modern GUI I can only delete files one at a time, if I try to mass delete files it states "x items weren't deleted"

In the Classic GUI I can delete individual and groups of files with no problems.

The problem seems to be with any file type in the modern GUI. If I try to delete lots of files all at once of whichever format they are not deleted. I have to delete them 1 at a time.

The same error occurs if I try to move the files to a new folder in the modern GUI.

I have tried all of the above in Chrome 75 and IE 11

See below - I try to delete all 5 files at once

The error just states the items weren't deleted with no further information.

thanks

Dear PlantHead,

Thanks for your updates.

I’d like to confirm whether the issue only happens in the specific multiple files. If you share the folder with other users, can they delete them in the modern OneDrive UI on their computers?

Best Regards,

Cliff

Hi,

If I share those files with another user then they can remove them from the 'Shared with Me' list but they can't delete them.

If I try to delete a folder I receive the error stating:

You have to delete all the items in this folder before you can delete the folder

thanks

Dear PlantHead,

Thanks for your updates.

I’d like to confirm whether the issue only happens in the specific multiple files. Please also check whether you open the files with your Office 2016 applications on your computer. If you rename them, check if you can delete them.

Best Regards,

Cliff

HI,

The files can all be deleted individually, the problem only arises when multiple files are being deleted - is this what you are asking?

I can download the files to my computer, open and work on them in Office 2016 and delete them.

When I upload them to OneDrive I can carry on working with them and I can see all the changes, however I still cannot delete multiple files. Individually there is no problem deleting them.

Renaming the files in Onedrive, or downloading and then renaming them also doesn't allow me to delete them in multiples.

Regards

Dear PlantHead,

Thanks for your updates.

I’d like to know whether you are only unable to delete the files showed in the provided screenshot at one time . If you delete other multiple files in your OneDrive for Business library at one time, what’s the result?

Best Regards,

Cliff

Hi

Trying to delete any individual file works correctly

Trying to delete any multiples of files always fails in the modern GUI

Trying to delete any multiples of files always succeeds in the classic GUI

This behavior affects  all users in our domain.

thanks

P

If the issue is urgent in your environment and you are an administrator, I suggest you open a ticket or contact phone support via the steps mentioned in the article. For you to quickly open a ticket, I’ve summarized the issue as follows.

Issue Symptom:

===============

When removing multiple files in the modern OneDrive for Business UI at one time, an error message “X items weren't deleted" pops up.

Issue Environment:

=============

Office 365 OneDrive for Business site

The steps have been done:

========================

1. Downloading the files, renaming the affected files, re-uploading the files to the OneDrive for Business site, and then removing them don’t help.

2. The issue happens in all domain users in the customer’s organization.

3. Removing the same files in the classic OneDrive for Business UI is fine.

4. The issue happens in all browsers in the customer’s environment.
