.asd file won't save as .docx file

Hi,

I've located the autosaved file by going to Word -> Info -> Manage Document -> Recover Unsaved Document. When I try to "SaveAs" the .asd file, the file will not save at all (although no error is produced). I've tried saving it on my local desktop as well as OneDrive. And using the "Save As" prompt after opening the .asd file and the Save As option in the File tab.

I've managed to copy the text and paste it into a new doc, but this doesn't preserve all the comments and track-changes that have been made.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear 01bex_multi,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, it seems that you are trying to save the Unsaved Document (.asd file) with "Save As" option, however, no error prompts and file does not get saved in Windows device.

If the understanding above is right, considering that it is an unsaved document that contains important data and you have tried both save as option in Word, to avoid data loss, we'd sincerely recommend you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator if you are not the admin of the organization, follow steps in this article to contact Online Support. The support team over there has higher permission than us, they can remotely help check the situation on your side, involve more resource to collect logs and help you restore the unsaved file safely. This would be a more efficient way in handling this case for you.

We'd also recommend you navigate to the folder and copy and paste the unsaved file in another location, use another device/ local profile to open the .asd file and try saving the file as .docx file to check the outcome to avoid data loss.

If you send me a copy of the .asd file, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.
