alternating row colors

created a spreadsheet in which i made alternating row colors for ease of read.

i changed the fill color to acheive this.

if i do a sort on any of the columns, the background color goes with the cell.

is there a way to make alternating colors, every other line, that isnt affected by the sort?

i would even settle for it being a print option vs an on screen file option.

Hi,

Click a column hedare letter then drag to select as many columns as you want this to apply to then:-

Home tab | Conditional formatting | New rule | Use a formula to decide which cells to format and enter this formula

=MOD(ROW(),2)=1

Click the format button, fill tab, choose a colour and ok out.

If you want colour in the plain rows repeat the above but use this formula and a different colour.

=MOD(ROW(),2)=0

Hi,

Another simple way is to convert the range into a Table

1. Select the range of cells (where first row of selection is the header row and the headers should be in Bold or Italic)

2. Press Ctrl+T > OK

The process above will band alternate rows in colours.  To change the colours, select any cell in the Table and in the Table Tools yellow button in the title bar of your Excel file, select any other design.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm afraid that only the person that posted the question; and I understand Moderators, can see it so I can't and this probably goes a long way to explaining why so many correct answers are not marked as such by the OP.

I suspect those that own and  maintain this forum will continue to occupy themselves worrying about things of vital importance like modifying the MCC badge and abuse of the 'Content Curator' badge and  continue to ignore the on-going problem of so many correct answers not being marked correct by the OP because it isn't intuative. Such is life!!

I suspect a Mod will mark this as answer in due course, thank you for trying.

At the bottom of the replies, there should be a "Mark as Answer" hyperlink on the same line as the "Reply", "Reply with Quote". It should only be visible to the person who created the question.  Others can use the "Like" link to indicate the reply helped them.0

Hi,

I would suggest that posting the screenshot here would be a good idea.

I have no idea whether it's significant but I note that this wasn't posted as a question, it was posted as a discussion. Can you mark a discussion as answer?

If this response answers your question then please mark as answer.
