All icons end up in the top left corner of the desktop

Split from this thread.

The issue is, that every time I reboot or start the computer up the Windows 10 places all the the icons into the top left corner on the Desktop.

However, I want them to in very specific places and want them to stay there wen I reboot or start the computer up.

Thanks

Right-click the desktop and choose View on the context menu; be sure to deselect the option to align icons to grid as well as the option for auto arrange. Doing that should let you drag icons to the places where you want them.

Thanks Stefan,

However, that on desktome right-clciking and deselecting "align icons to grid" as well as "auto arrange". I have done long ago. I can drag the icons wher I want to.

But, next time I reboot or start up the computer the icons are again in the top-right corner, without fail.

What now?

Do you ever attach your computer to a projector or use a second monitor? Those are the only other reasons I can imagine which would rearrange the desktop icons for you.

Yes, I am using an external monitor.

Why should this be a problem?

How do I fix this or must I live with it?

The cause of trouble is that connecting to a different monitor/projector usually also means that you get a different screen resolution and size, which in turn may rearrange the icons. I don't know of a way to prevent it from happening.

It's easier to keep the files in a document folder (not on the desktop) and set the view to Details.
