Aligning data labels in Powerpoint

How can I align data series labels to be RIGHT or LEFT aligned? Right now, when there are two lines of text, it automatically aligns centered and looks bad. The options to align are in the ribbon but when I choose one it messes up the vertical alignment of the text & does nothing for the horizontal alignment of the labels. I need to be able to align the data series labels for my job and right now I can still only do this using Office 2011 which is no longer supported!

Answer
The normal text controls work for most text formatting in charts. Select the data labels, then use Paragraph>Left Align on the Ribbon or Format>Paragraph>Alignment>Left on the macOS menu bar.
