Access VBA Books and Version

There are very few books on MS Access written and published any longer. You can thank Google and YouTube for that evolution. Well, there is a good side to that, as well, I suppose, and that is the availability of a lot of free materials and information.

The last excellent MS Access book I read was written by Jeff Conrad, a MS employee and former Access MVP. It was on Access 2013. However, the basics are not changed.

The single most important thing you must master, though, is the concept and Rules of Normalization. Invest a few days (or even weeks) diving into and understanding how to properly design tables in a relational database application. After that, studying Access will be applying the specific tools in Access to the project of implementing the database. One good book I would consider here is Database Design for Mere Mortals It takes a bit of a unique approach, but it's very, very solid.

Your other question. MS has basically elected not to change "Office 365" versioning any longer, other than changing the name to "Microsoft 365". If you purchase the subscription license, you'll always have the most recent implementation, although the exact version you have at any one time is going to depend on which distribution channel you are on. As of today, Access 2019 and Access 365 are very similar products.

VBA hasn’t changed much for a few years. It’s fairly primitive, in fact, so the important thing is to use the best practices learned in other environments. You might consider RubberDuck, an attempt to modernize the Visual Basic Environment. rubberduckvba.com.

It’s always advisable to consider using SQL as the first solution attempt because it produces results very quickly. Sometimes, however, you need a bit more.

As George points out, not many new books these days, so copyright dates that go back a few years are still worth having.

Others I would recommend include Andrew Couch's book, Microsoft Access 2010 VBA Programming Inside Out, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JDMPGAA/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0. He takes a good shot at trying to make VBA as much of an OOP language as possible, but it will only go so far.

My favorite book remains Access 97 Developer's Handbook by Ken Getz and it is just as applicable today as it was 25 years ago. Goes to show you how little VBA has changed.

It depends what you wish to concentrate on, but a great Access specific book is Access Solutions: Tips, Tricks, and Secrets from Microsoft Access MVPs

Also, nowadays you can learn everything online through various websites and by reviewing the multitude of demo/sample databases that can be found on them.

The recommendation to learn database "normalization" is vital. If you do a "bad" job of initial design of your database, you will long term problems as you store more data and look to do more with that data.

There is very little (if any) material / books that are dedicated specifically to VBA in Access. Most likely, there will be a VBA section in a general Access Book.

Change in computer programs tends to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. New code / features get "bolted on" top of existing code / features rather than massive rewriting of code. Even the change from the (superior) Menu user interface to the Ribbon (gooey

The point of making the above point is good news for you. If you find training / learning materials for older versions of the program, often it will still be mostly relevant in Office 365. It will provide you with information on core features. Obviously, "new features" won't be there, but you can pick up on that

Seeing as how Access is a Microsoft product, who better to teach you the ins-and-outs of how this program is meant to be used? Fortunately, Microsoft provides a series of online videos that cover several different topics for Beginners and Intermediates.
Each video is between 15 to 20 minutes long. The first one covers the key concepts and principles that make Access what it is, and subsequent videos explore skills like database creation, querying for data, and using advanced query parameters.

Rich Holowczak is a computer guru who has worked with numerous computer systems leading all the way back to the Apple II and has been teaching computer science for several decades. Suffice it to say that this guy knows his stuff.
His website is home to a number of tutorials, but his biggest hit is his Microsoft Access series. It comes in two versions: the original was written for Access 97/2000/2003 while the second version is updated for Access 2007/2010/2013. We recommend the second one.
The series starts with basic concepts and interface tips, moves onto manipulation of tables/queries/forms, and ends with a handful of more complicated topics like reports, switchboards, and advanced database design.

GCF Learn Free is an initiative by the Goodwill Community Foundation that aims to teach skills necessary for prosperity in the 21st Century. The site is home to 1,000+ lessons across various subjects, and they’re all available for free.
Of those lessons, 19 of them cover basic Access education. Most are available in either text format or video format (both formats include helpful diagrams and illustrations to guide you along). The ones without videos are short enough that video wouldn’t add much value.
While these aren’t the most in-depth tutorials, they’re great as an introduction and as refresher lessons in case you get rusty and need a few reminders.

Though Quackit is technically a resource for web developers, it does contain a short and sweet tutorial series for Access. Like GCF Learn Free’s Access series, this one is good for an introductory overview. As such, it should be supplemented with a more in-depth resource.

Access 2016 Bible 
Dick Kusleika and I updated our Access 2016 Bible.
I don’t know if it ever got to #1 in Amazon’s Database category (like Dick was pushing for), but I just checked and it #6.

I'll refrain from adding my book to the list. But I will say that VBA has not changed appreciably since 2007. The only change of import is what is needed to make an app 64 bit compatible. And that is well documented.
