1:1 chat was renamed on Microsoft Teams

Hi there,

Somehow one on one chat was renamed which is unusual since there is no option to name a one on one chat. Is there a way to rename it again since doesn't show the pen/pencil next to the name. I have used both desktop app and web app to see if there is any way to fix this, was it a glitch ?

Hi Syed Faraz,

Based on my experience, we can rename a group chat with the "pencil" next to the name, and it's not feasible to rename a 1:1 chat. When you chat with one person, it should just show his/her display name in Teams. So, if you found the chat name has changed, please confirm with the user if he/she changed the display name.

you can see one one one chat renamed as "AS", they didnt change the display name as their whole name is mentioned on top of chat window.

Hi Syed Faraz,

After consulting, the 1:1 chat should not be able to rename. And based on my testing, the scenario will happen when you are in a group chat and other participants leave the group chat with leaving you and the other one. And it will still show the group chat name. So regarding this scenario, I would like to confirm it with you. 

Besides, have you added the user as your contact? If yes, please try to go to Contacts to check if it shows the display name or "AS". 

And please try to check if it happens to Teams web version.
