Windows Phone 8.1 Cyan XBOX Music Stops Playing - Restart Required

Lumia 1520 Windows Phone 8.1 Cyan XBOX Music.

Playing music from my list of songs purchased through the store, on the phone.

Songs play for a while, then randomly stop playing.

I can cycle through songs, select different ones, press Play and Pause, move the minute marker forward and back on the song...

But no matter what, no song will play.

Very frustrating.  Sometimes it takes a while for the song play to hang, other times just a few minutes.

Contacted Windows Phone Support and they suggested a Reset of the phone, which was done successfully.

However, the problem still occurs.

Now figure this one out... if I reboot the phone it will play again, for a while.

If I unplug the headphones... it will play again...  hu?

Then it will work for a while, then hang again.

What do I need to do to get my 1520 to successfully play music without hanging?  What's the secret?  Can I uninstall the 8.1 update?  Love Cortana, but the broken music playback and Bluetooth problems are a real deal breaker.

Help!!!

Seems like your phone needs a hard reset sweetheart:

Thanks sweatheart, but that path has already been taken and resulted in no change in the issue.

Hi,

I got the same issue. Nokia Lumia 930. The same behavior as described above.

btw: I had this issue from the first day - so it makes sense that a hard reset won't solve it...

Cheers,

Jakob

I also have the exact same problem.

Nokia Lumia 1520.

Carrier:  AT&T

Windows Phone 8.1

OS Version 8.10.12397.895

Firmware version 02061.00074.14273.33019

Hard reset didn't solve the problem for me, either.  I have to reboot my phone to get music to work again.

Hi,

the trick mentioned by MrSnodgrass works well for me. I unplug the headphones. This tells the app to "stop playing". After plugging the headphones back in, I can press the play button again and the music actually starts playing :)

Cheers,

Jakob

This is not a solution, it's temporary. After next 4-5 songs the problem apears again. It's very annoying. I've got the same situation on Lumia 930 - not only on XBox Music. Also one OneMusic, MixRadio, Deezer, Spotify :(

Also have a Lumia 930 with the same issue. It's a bug that need fixing. Not a good look for Microsofts Flagship phone. You kind of expect it to do the basic things like playing music.

Also would like to have the button back to play random tracks.

The Windows Phone 8.1 Bug where the music stops playing is still a problem and no resolution appears to be in sight.

Some of the other Windows Phone 8.1 Bugs that need attention:

1. HEREdrive Bluetooth Integration - In Windows Phone 8, HEREdrive worked via Bluetooth through the car's infotainment system.  As of the Windows Phone 8.1 release the Nokia navigation app HEREdrive no longer works through Bluetooth.

In addition, it appears that the only Bluetooth functionality that successfully passed from Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 8.1 was music play.  The current Windows Phone 8.1 Bluetooth operability is a jumbled mess that either hangs the phone (requiring a reboot) or hangs the infotainment integrated Bluetooth media system.  Granted, the automobile infotainment system could be blamed, however seeing that Bluetooth functioned fine in Windows Phone 8, it would make sense that it should also work in Windows Phone 8.1.

Not only does the Nokia app HEREdrive not work via Bluetooth anymore, but trying to use HEREdrive via Bluetooth produces all kinds of interesting errors that make HEREdrive essentially inoperable when used in your automobile.  If the phone is connected Bluetooth to the automobile, then HEREdrive simply doesn't work.  It will map directions, but all and any audio through the infotainment system ends and the phone must be rebooted.

The "new by design" functionality that required the Windows Phone 8.1 user to initiate music play from the phone, instead of allowing the automobile infotainment system to autostart the Bluetooth music play is also a disappointment.  Why Windows Phone 8.1 Engineers thought that was going to be a good idea is a mystery.

Just chiming in -- same issue on a Lumia 1520. I found this thread trying to find a solution (and luckily, unplugging the headset works temporarily). This is definitely a frustrating bug.

Just to add more users to the frustration.  Same here on My 930.

Thanks for the head phone work around though.  I normally turned my phone on/off which is a real pain.  MS pleeeeeeeeease!
