Syncing photos from Mac to Windows Phone via the Mac application, all photos fail to copy. I'm using the new Mac "Photos" application...

Hi, I'm just migrating from iPhone to my first Windows phone (lumia, 930).  All going pretty well, until I tried to copy photos from the new Mac "Photos" application to the Windows Phone using the Windows Phone software (V3.1.1).

I have successfully copied music from iTunes to the phone using the Windows Phone software.

Attempting to copy photos to the phone:

- select the folders that I want to sync - no problems

- hit the sync button

- along the bottom of the application window it rapidly counts through the photos it's copying, the green bar races from left to right...

- States "Finishing transfer" and has a blue and darker blue barber pole for a while...

- then I get an error message:

"Something went wrong while syncronizing files

We weren't able to transfer the following files.  The reasons for each error are listed below.

then for every single photo, there's a line saying:

Could not copy "photo name" to the device.

I kind of suspect that the application is built to transfer from iPhoto, rather than from "Photos" .   I get that, but the iPhoto library is still all there on the machine, I can still open and run iPhoto.

so I guess there are 2 questions:

1) Is this an error that is due to the new Photos app?  If not, then any suggestions on what might be causing it?

2) Any ideas on when an updated version of the Windows Phone transfer software is likely to be released working with the Mac Photos app?

cheers

Hello,

I would suggest you to try from this app developed for Windows Phone for Mac :

Thanks Harvey, that's the app that I have been using (see screen grabs above).  It's that app that has not worked.

Cheers

Hi

I have the same issue as well. :( I hope Microsoft will update the Windows Phone App soon.

The annoying part is that Apple removed the iPhoto 11 as part of Photos update. So pretty much stuck.

There is "Nokia Photo Transfer" app for Mac, to pick up the RAW files.

Hi, so we're 2 weeks into this issue and have not seen anything on the web from MS.  I assume that all other windows phone users who also use Macs (and have upgraded to the new Mac Photos app) have the same problem?  Any suggestions on how to get the message to MS that they need to update their application?

BTW also tried the Nokia Photo Transfer application, that doesn't work with Mac Photos either.

Nokia Photo Transfer is a two step process.

First bring the photos on to a folder on the Mac from the Phone.

Then launch Photos, and do an Import.

Thanks Kris,

I understand that - it's a little disappointing that an import from the phone to the Mac is a 2 step process still (whereas Mac Photos seems to recognise most other cameras, making it 1 step).

However the bigger issue for me is the issue I raised: getting photos from the Mac Photos app onto my phone.  My photos in "Mac Photos" get updated pretty regularly and I want to be able to sync them down from the Mac to the phone.  I can do it with other phones, just not the Windows Phone.

Cheers

I also just switched from iPhone 5 to Lumia 735 (and I love it). No doubt: Microsoft has to update this sync app for Mac. So far the only options I see are "Aperture" and "iPhoto". Please add "Photos"-support. flickr did it. MS should do it. Besides, Google Photos also fails to update to "Photos" - still only iPhoto and Aperture support. There is a way to trick Google out by selecting the master folder within the "Photos" package (flickr and Google save the originals and not the modified versions anyway). In case of the MS software this trick does not work as one cannot indicate paths to photos or videos. So, we are all waiting for an overdue update !!!

Hi Thomas and others who have reported this problem - it's still an issue and after spending an hour or more chatting with Microsoft yesterday, they don't seem to be in any hurry to fix.  Could we all (who identify this problem) please vote for a fix at: https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/8671765-fix-windows-phone-application-for-mac-to-work-with

Thanks
