YAHOO MAIL SYNC PROBLEMS - POSSIBLE FIX

I recently purchased the Nokia Lumia 920 with Windows 8 Phone.  Like many others, I was having trouble synchronising my Yahoo mail account on the phone, even though my other mail accounts (Gmail and Hotmail) had synced perfectly well.

I have now discovered that the problem was that my Yahoo account was not set up to enable email to be received on other accounts/devices via POP.

Accordingly, I signed into my Yahoo mail account and took the following steps:

Clicked on Options

Clicked on Mail Options

Clicked on POP & Forwarding

Checked the circle next to Access Yahoo Mail via POP

Clicked on Save

My Yahoo account now syncs with my smartphone.

This was not my original discovery - I owe this solution to an answer in another thread I stumbled across.  However, since I had trouble finding that thread (indeed, I only found it by chance), and the answer itself was only one reply in a longer thread, I thought I'd post the solution in a new thread in the hope it would prove useful to others.

Brendan or Sheena:

Hello and Happy New Year.  I just received a Lumia 920 for Christmas.  I am also trying to synch my Yahoo! mail account on the phone.  I followed Brendan's steps as noted above for selecting the POP option for Yahoo!.

Yahoo! 'Inbox' and 'Sent' on both desktop and phone sync fine when I send from my desktop; however, when I send a Yahoo! mail from my phone only the Yahoo! 'Inbox' on my desktop syncs, 'Sent' on desktop doesn't.  I notice that, on the phone, the 'Microsoft Account Settings' for Hotmail show a 'Content to sync [x] Email'  line item, but the 'Yahoo! Mail Settings' does not.

Do I need to change my Yahoo! Incoming (POP) and Outgoing (SMTP) settings on my phone?

Hotmail, sent either from desktop and phone, syncs 'Inbox' and Sent' folders on each seamlessly.

Thank you for your help...Patrick A.

Hi,
Although the thread is a bit old. Just wanted to share my experience on synch issue over mobile network. Had configured everything and synch over Wifi without issue. When switched to mobile network, external account (yahoo, gmail) failed to synchronized. Also shared internet connection (WP hotspot) was giving a limited connectivity. For me what resolved all, was to set-up PAP Authentication in the mobile network provider access point.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

I tried all the suggested fixes and nothing worked except for this:

1. I log into your yahoo account from your computer and click on "Account Information".

2. Click on Account Security and and scrolled on to "Manage App Passwords"

3. Click on other and enter Windows Phone and click search or hit enter

4. A password to the Yahoo app will show up. Enter that password to your yahoo account instead of the password you use to sign into your yahoo email account.

5. It will automatically syn and then click "done" on your computer.

I followed the above advice but Yahoo! mail sent from my Windows phone still had not synced with the computer version.

Check your Yahoo webmail for a folder called Sent Items, you'll find the messages sent from your phone there.

I don't know how to reconfigure the folders so that there is only one sent folder being updated though.   I'd like to try renaming it but am afraid of breaking it...   currently I copy the Sent Items (that were sent from my phone) to my Yahoo Sent folder (the main sent folder) periodically.
