how to set a new tab to be my home page in edge

It doesn't look like the new version of Edge supports this. Is that right? Seems like the new tab "customize" options force you to work within the framework of an MS startup page. Not really what I want.

If there is a way to set a new tab to what I want (my home page), I'd appreciate instructions on how to do that. Otherwise, I'll probably just stick with one of the other guys.

(cool new logo though)

Hi Mirky,
I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

It still looks like a work in progress. I tried and the page didn't render correctly(no idea why).

Here is the URL for the new tab page. Go to Settings>Appearance and Personalization> Show Home button and put the following address there:

edge://newtab/

If that doesn't work, please file feedback by pressing Alt+Shift+I. I hope that helps.
Sumit

I don't think you understood what was being asked. I am asking the same thing.

I would like my new tab page setting to be the same as my home page setting.

In the new MS Edge "Chromium" the new tab defaults to a MS Edge page for the new tab page.

It appears your instructions were to set the home page to the same as the new tab page rather than the other way around.

Or, maybe I am missing something.

How can I set the new tab page in the new MS Edge to open with a user defined URL?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Use this extension:

Custom New Tab URL - Microsoft Edge Addons

Make sure to write the URL completely i.e. with https://www.google.com for example (instead of Google.com).

This plugin doesnt work, it adds garbage at the fron of the URL when you open a new tab. Open a new tab and the URL in the browser looks like this for www.duckduckgo.com

This is beyond pathetic. Microsoft forces us to view their ****-filled news page every time we open a new tab?!

This was the straw that had me install DuckDuckGo and make that my homepage as well.

You mean their propaganda fake news page? Yeah, I have the same issue. I don't need to be inundated with their biased, leftist, state-run fake news media every time I open a new tab.

Yes this is a bunch of garbage by Microsoft. I don't want to see their propaganda "news" links either.

Microsoft isn't forcing anyone to view anything. Please have a look at the customization options available under the Page Settings ⚙ menu on the New Tab Page. If you don't want to see the news feed at all, click on Custom and then under Content select Content off from the dropdown.

Each news item in the feed has an ellipsis  in the bottom corner. The menu behind it gives you the option to hide the item's publisher, so it's easy to eliminate content that you're not interested in.

Yes, it appears that it is now changeable. However, a recent Windows update now puts a Weather tab on my task bar and when you click it, guess what? More of their garbage news feed. I never asked for that weather tab or their news feed. Any ideas on how to disable that one, because I can't find any setting to turn it off.
