1. Launch Microsoft Edge

2. Click on Settings - or enter URL edge://settings/passwords

3. Click on Show Passwords

4. you get the following popup;

5. Type your PIN and notice the cursor in the PIN field freezers and there is a lengthy delay for the characters being typed to be displayed in the PIN field. Same delay exist if you choose to use your password.

Hi Ray. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

Have you reset the PIN by removing it in Settings > Account > Sign in Options, restart PC then go back to add it again.

If the PIN won't Reset:

Open Windows File Explorer using the file folder icon on your task bar.

Tick the box in File Explorer View tab to Show Hidden Files.

Browse to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Ngc

Delete or rename to Ngc.old this folder to reset the PIN.

**You may need to first take ownership of the folder: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-add-ta...

Once you delete or rename the folder it will recreate it so you can add a PIN normally in Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign-In Options. You may need to restart the PC first.

For any unexpected problems see the full illustrated tutorial covering all possible problems here:
https://www.askvg.com/fix-unable-to-add-and-use...

I will also give you all steps to fix Edge so at least something will work.

Enable and make sure you have the latest version of Flash in Edge:
https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8376-enable...
https://allthings.how/how-to-enable-flash-in-ne...

Back up your Favorites first in Edge Hub (three dots top right of browser) > Favorites > Manage Favorites > Export to file. If you can't reach Edge you can install the tiny app Manage Edge Favorites here: http://www.emmet-gray.com/Articles/EdgeManage.html to do this, which also gives Edge all of the Favorites Management enjoyed in Internet Explorer.

You can reset new Edge in Edge Settings > Reset Settings, or for old Edge in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features, scroll down to Microsoft Edge, highlight it, choose Advanced Options, then Repair, or if that fails, Reset.

If that doesn't help then try re-registering the app following Option Two here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-apps-re...

New Edge is available for download here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge and will replace the old one. To run both see here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/144061-enab...

To try to remove New Edge and go back see here:

I would have several browsers on your task bar so there's always one that's best for the task. I use Firefox, Edge and Chrome in that order of preference. It's easy to share bookmarks between all of them in their settings under Import Favorites from another Browser, and Firefox and Chrome let you sign in to save and/or sync your Favorites on any other device you sign into. Set the preferred browser as Default in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
Firefox download: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Chrome download: https://www.google.com/chrome/

If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This will also bring it up to the latest version 1909 which you need anyway by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your detailed reply.

As I stated above the delay also occurs if I use my password.

My PIN and Password works properly In Windows 10 and I checked the Windows Security functionality outside of Edge and there are no issues with the security popup in Windows.

The problem is only with Edge. I only use Edge and IE on my PC.

I will use Norton Password manager instead of the password manager in Edge.

Regards,

Ray

Ray, after ten years daily in forums I can tell you that whenever we see Norton we've usually found the problem. I would not use anything by Norton, MacAfee, Avast, or AVG when the built in tools for Windows 10 give much better WIndows performance and cause fewer problems.

PIN's are often problematic as well, but if the same thing happens with password then I'd try repairing Edge which solves problems here every day. I also gave you all steps to fix Edge so at least something will work.
