"Show Search History" What is the function of this switch in Microsoft Edge?

What is the function of the "Show Search History" switch in Microsoft Edge?

  • What does "Show Search History" actually do for Microsoft Edge?
  • Why is there a switch to turn on and off "Show Search History" in Microsoft Edge?
  • Why when I turn-off the switch for "Show Search History" in Microsoft Edge, it still continues to cache and shows searches typed in the browser?

 

Even with the "Show Search History" switch turned off, it Still is caching and showing searches in History.

From what I gather, this feature is superfluous, and has no benefit for the end user (since it does not work!)

Many Edge users rely on these links as future reference when needed.

If you do not wish to keep these links in History do the following:

Click More ... > Select Settings

Click Privacy  & Services

Click Choose What To Clear Every time you close the Browser

Enable Browsing History

Next time you close then re-launch the browser History should be cleared. However, as you search the History links will appear in More ... > History for that day. Upon closing the browser those search links will be cleared.

This still does not answer the question, "What does the Show Search History switch do in Microsoft Edge."

Microsoft's continual feigning of ignorance just makes it more obvious that they misuse personal & private data.

IMO, this switch is just there to give the user piece of mind over something that they clearly have NO control over.

I have an idea as to what this switch does, and why Microsoft is keeping it hidden.

Show History switch:

It is known to be used to monitor behavior of Employees  as well as the internet usage of children.
