MIcrosoft privacy settings

Hello,

I am facing a lot of problems while attending online classes because my privacy settings do not allow Microsoft edge or chrome to use a microphone.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard. I'm a Microsoft Windows expert and a Microsoft Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I actually have the same problem and by following the steps below fixed my issue, I hope this works for you as well.

Open Settings (Press Windows key + i)

Click Privacy> Look for Microphone

Check for allow apps to access your Microphone and check all boxes on the apps below

Note: If this will not work try to uncheck then check it back, then restart the device.

If issue persist try to create local account and see if that's work perfectly and you can use the new account and migrate your files.

Create Local account:
Press Windows key + R then type in Netplwiz click ok
Click add (if add is greyed out check User must enter a username and password to use this computer)
Click Sign in without a Microsoft account
Click local account
Fill up then finish
After that Open Netplwiz again
Click the account you created
Click Properties> Group Membership and click Administrator click apply and ok
Login to another user and check.

Let me know how does it goes and I hope that helps.

... my privacy settings do not allow Microsoft edge ... to use a microphone.

Apart from the Windows settings, there are also settings within the browser that specify which sites are allowed to access bits of hardware and software on the computer. Click  (Settings and more⚙ Settings and open the Site permissions page, then apply the ones you want.

Each site you visit can have its own permissions. Visit the site you're interested in, then click the icon next to http... in the address bar; it will usually be a padlock 🔒. In the information window that opens, click Site permissions to set and change permissions for that site specifically.
