Microsoft Edge Secure Network settings not available on one computer

I have two computers that have been upgraded to Windows 11 Home version. One computer is an old ACER PC that didn’t meet all the qualifications for Windows 11. The other computer is a Microsoft Surface 7 Pro. I am trying to setup both computers with similar specs.

One specific issue that I can’t seem to resolve is both computers have Microsoft Edge as the default browser and both have the same updated version. (110.0.1587.46)  However, the Old ACER PC has the Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN…..the Surface Pro does not have the option available in settings to turn on Microsoft Edge Secure network.

I am not running Canary and I am not a Windows Insider and I am signed in with my Microsoft account on both computers.

Why can’t I setup the Surface pro with Microsoft Edge Secure Network ?

Hello Dennis Radcliff

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that the feature "Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN" can't use in the new Surface.

This feature "Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN" isn't pushing to new users so if you don't have this feature you can't get this feature now.

The canary version also doesn't have this feature now.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I am a little confused regarding your reply. Both of my computers were upgraded to Windows 11 at the same time. However the 6 year old ACER PC now has the "Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN" feature .....but the 4 year old Surface Pro does not. Why would the older non-compliant Windows 11 PC get the more advanced feature in the upgrade?

Hello Dennis Radcliff

Thanks for your reply.

In Edge this feature is no longer pushed to new users and some feature in Edge will random push to the user so may the acer be pushed and the

surface not pushed.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Hello Tommy,

I installed Canary version, and Secure Network DOES appear on the menu. I turned it ON and set it to be ALWAYS ON just to see how it works. I do not see any indication in the toolbar that VPN is active. My understanding is that it should appear just to the left of my picture, correct?

Thanks,

Igor

Hello Tommy,

Would appreciate it if you could elaborate on what you meant by "This feature "Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN" isn't pushing to new users"!

In other words, what do you mean by "new users"?

I have been using Windows since the days of Windows 3, and my Edge browser does NOT include the feature/option to enable "Microsoft Edge Secure Network", and I have looked everywhere!

Can you help in that regard?

Here is my Edge version:

Microsoft EdgeVersion 114.0.1823.86 (Official build) (64-bit)

Thank you!

What it means is MS gave the update to random computers for a period of time, then they stopped, so no new devices will get the feature as long as it's still in development or on preview status

That's what he meant by no new users will get it for now..

If the device you have already have it then you'll continue to have it, if not you will not untill it's officially released

Part of that isn't true. I've had the same laptop for a couple of years and this fall the option for the VPN disappeared after keeping the browser up to date. I am using the latest and greatest Edge. I was perplexed of why it disappeared.
