Microsoft Edge browser lagging

I'm using edge browser since 2020 but from few days it is lagging so much while typing, scrolling any website & even while scrolling bing search homepage.

I've tried everything to solve the problem. I have cleared all cookies and cache, it is also up to date & even i had reset my pc, reinstalled repaired it but nothing worked. It is so irritable to me

PLS provide me a solution to this problem.

I would like to get additional information about your computer. Do you have any extensions installed on Microsoft Edge? Do you use any 3rd party antivirus software?

Hi,

There is no extension installed on it and I don't use any third party antivirus software but I use Windows Security by Microsoft.

I have the same problem, it lags so badly that I can't even view most sites. When I type for search it takes up to 30 seconds for the first characters to appear. This all happened after updating to Windows 11. Using Lenovo Ideapad3 McAfee security, no extensions installed. The lag is so bad it makes me long for the lightning fast days of dial up. Thanks for your help.

Mehul Lathey and BrianMitchell58, I would like both of you to try reset settings and see if it improves it.

This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history, and saved passwords will not be cleared.

  1. Click on the three dots menu button.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Reset settings.

  4. Click on Restore settings to their default values.

  5. Click on Reset.

I would like to get the version number of your Microsoft Edge.

  1. Click on the three dots menu button.

  2. Go to Help and feedback.

  3. Click on About Microsoft Edge.

Hi Eric,

I tried the reset you recommended, and I thought that corrected the problem. Since then the issue has come back and resetting doesn't seem to do any good. Yesterday I reset and restarted my laptop and it did nothing to help.

This is my version Version 97.0.1072.55 (Official build) (64-bit)

It has taken me 6 minutes to type this with the lag.

I also have the same issue.  Did all the steps described more than once. Full shut down... nothing seems to work.  However, I do have Norton Anti Virus software installed , but this is not a new installation. Always had it. The newest thing is that it will tell me that "edge is not responding".... this is extremely annoying & frustrating, please help....

Since resetting settings didn't solve it,  I would like you to submit feedback about this for the engineers to investigate.

  1. Click on the three dots menu button.
  2. Go to Help and feedback.
  3. Click on Send feedback.
  4. Fill out the form.
  5. Include your email address.
  6. Click on Record my problem button.
  7. Agree to the terms and click on Start recording.  
  8. Record up for a minute of the slow performance issue and then click on Stop recording.
  9. Click on Save and include.
  10. Click on Send.

We also have this problem. It's an issue with Avast that we can tell as if we disable it, Edge and Chrome speeds up so it clearly a problem with interfering with Chromium and AV scanning.

No extensions are installed, happens in InPrivate mode too. Other browsers are fine (Firefox, for example.)
