I cannot install Microsoft Edge, it's already installed but I can't run it.

I use a Huawei Matebook X with Windows 11 version 23H2.

Microsoft Edge is nowhere to be found as an app if i search for it in the search bar. I can find it in the settings under Apps/Installed Apps but I cannot interact with it, the uninstall button is greyd out. Trying to reinstall it from the Microsoft Store doesn't work, it says it is already installed (and I also can't uninstall it). Trying to download it from the web also doesn't work, I get a pop-up that says Microsoft Edge is already installed on this device and when I click the link to open Edge an error message pops up that says:

"

This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page.

"

(I could not upload a screenshot)

When downloading the MicrosoftEdgeSetup.exe regardless, trying to install it results in error code: 0x8004070d

How can I fix this issue, so I can open Microsoft Edge again on my laptop?

Thank you in advance

S.

Hi Simon,
I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. We are happy to help you.

The error code indicates a PATH problem. Let us check the same:

Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.

Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter to open the System Properties window.

Navigate to the Advanced tab.

Click on the Environment Variables button.

In the Environment Variables window, you will see two sections: User variables for your account and System variables for all users.

Take screenshots of them and post in the next reply.

I look forward to hearing from you, and ready to work with you until we reach a solution.
Sumit

Thanks, Simon. These appear fine although I am not sure the entries about PATH variable.
Does the issue persist in a new Local account?

1. Open the Settings app by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the gear icon.

2. Click on "Accounts."

3. Click on "Family & other users" in the left-hand menu.

4. Under "Other users," click on "Add someone else to this PC."

5. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."

6. Click on "Add a user without a Microsoft account."

7. Enter a username and password for the new account.

8. Click on "Next" and then "Finish."

The new local account will now be added to your Windows 10 PC.

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.

Hi, yes the issue persists even if I add another new local user. It is exactly the same as compared to my original account.

I see, I appreciate that.

Please try a repair install as the next step. It keeps everything, including apps and files, and reinstalls Windows.
