How to stop Edge from asking to be the default browser for opening links, PDFs, images and more?

Every day I get a message "Do you want to set Microsoft Edge as your default browser for opening links, PDFs, images, and more?". I do not. There is no option to say no and this has been going on for a couple weeks. I already have Edge as my default internet browser (confirmed in the Default Apps section of the System Settings), and certainly don't want it taking over anything else.

Is there a way from preventing this annoying prompt from appearing every day? Obviously agreeing to "Set as default" is not an option. As it is a work computer I don't have rights to the registry editor or the policy editor. I would think any legitimate software would be able to take no for an answer.

Hi. I'll be happy to assist you with this issue.
Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

In order to fix this issue, please open Regedit app, then expand the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Microsoft

In the right side, please right click, select new dword value. As name set
DefaultBrowserSettingEnabled. By default, its value is 0. Finally reboot your computer.

Please let me know if that fixes your issue or if you need any further assistance.

Hello. I'm aware there's a registry fix, but as I said this is a work computer and I don't have access to the registry or the policy editor.

The ideal fix would be for Microsoft to actually let its users say no. It's pretty absurd this isn't the case.

Hello. My version is 109.0.1518.61. Although just the act of looking at my version has somehow caused it to update, so not sure what version it will change to, but I get very frequent updates, so I wouldn't imagine it will change much.

I have no control over my version as that would also be managed by my work.

Thanks for your feedback. There are not more suggestions that you can complete without administrator rights.

In this case, next steps are reinstalling Edge by downloading and running the last Edge installer. If that does not fix the issue, then the following steps are required to repair Windows. Please open the CMD as administrator, then paste the following commands:

sfc /scannow
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Please remember: those steps requires administrator rights.

JoseBeltre is on the right path, but doesn't have the complete instructions.

For other users who are experiencing this, here's the easiest way fix. (Adapted from Paul Navera's reply here)

Add a Registry value to disable "Set Microsoft Edge as Default" Prompt:
>> Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

>> Copy and paste the following into command prompt:

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /v DefaultBrowserSettingEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

>> Press "Enter" Key

>>Restart your Windows 10 PC.

This is not working.

This is simply a bad product with low personalization.

RickC55TW you either don't understand English or purposely making misleading advises - the original question was how to NOT making Edge default and your answer is to make it default?

Can you read?
