How to remove an edge extension that is “managed by your organization”

I have an extension on microsoft edge that can’t be removed and isn’t removed when I reset edge to default settings. It isn’t detected on anti malware apps either. How can I remove this extension?

I just checked my chrome and it’s on there as well.

Type powershell into search, then right click on Windows Powershell and "Run as administrator"

For Edge, copy/paste in the following command -> press enter:

reg delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f;reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f;

Ignore any error thrown as both keys aren't likely present.

Paste edge://policy/ into the Edge Address bar -> press enter -> Click "Reload Policies"

Chrome:

reg delete HKCU\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome /f;reg delete HKLM\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome /f;

If that doesn't work or the extensions come back, run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and share your logs.

  • If your computer language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe

  • Run FRST and press "Scan"

  • Two logs are created in the folder that FRST is run from, FRST.txt and Addition.txt

  • Upload the logs to OneDrive, Google Drive or any file sharing service and post the share link

**If you are downloading FRST with Edge, smartscreen may initially block it.

   Click on the 3 dots next to the warning and select Keep-> Show more-> Keep anyway.
