How do you Switch between Regular and Private Mode in Microsoft Edge?

How to Switch between Regular and Private Mode in Microsoft Edge?

Hi Maria,
I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.
It seems like you are asking about InPrivate mode in Edge.

If you open Edge using a shortcut, it opens "Regular mode" i.e. Cookies, History etc are stored.

In the Regular mode, if you press the Ctrl+Shift+N keys, it opens an InPrivate Window, where every data is removed as soon as you close the Window.

In the Regular mode, you can configure to clear browsing data on Close, so it sorts of acts like Private. Let me know if you need instructions for that.
Hope that helps.

Sumit

Hi Sumit,

Thank you for your answer.

So, to be clear, if I understand it correctly, once you close the in private window, you can open another window in regular mode doing nothing.

“In the Regular mode, you can configure to clear browsing data on Close, so it sorts of acts like Private. Let me know if you need instructions for that.”

Please let me know how to do that.

Thanks again,

Maria

Hi MariaRitaB

Here are the steps to configure to clear browsing data on close.

  1. In Microsoft Edge, click on the three dots menu button.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Privacy, search, and services.

  4. Under Clear browsing data, click on Choose what to clear every time you close the browser.

  5. You can enable options you want to clear out, like Browsing history, cached images, and cookies. FYI, clearing cookies will sign you out of most sites.
