How do I recover numerous tabs that vanished in Edge?

I had around 500 (no exaggeration) open tabs in Edge and have been easily able to open and close Edge daily (I turn my computer off nightly) without problem for well over a year.

With the setting turned on in Edge for it open my last session, those 500 tabs are there each time I open the application.

Infrequently, when I start Edge, it gives me the option to restore the last session by clicking a button on screen for that purpose. I click the button, all the tabs open, and I go on with my activities.

This morning, that happened. Yet, when I clicked the button to reopen the tabs, none opened. Upon checking the history in Edge, there is no option under "Recently closed" to open those 500 tabs. Under "All", I can see many (maybe 100) of those 500 tabs, but there is no apparent way to open all of them.

Do I really have to right click to manually open each of those approximately 100 tabs?

What happened to the roughly 400 other tabs? Have I lost them forever?

Thanks to anyone who can help with this.

Hi, Jay S3

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you want to restore unrecovered tabs in Edge browser. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to restore closed tabs directly in Edge Browser, but we recommend that you find them in your browsing history and open them again. If you would like Edge to automatically open the tabs you opened the last time you closed it, you can type edge://settings/startHomeNTP in your browser, and under the "When Edge starts" option, select "open tabs from the previous session".

Also, if you have any comments about the Edge Tab Memory feature, you may submit feedback in the Microsoft Edge browser. Open the page in the Microsoft Edge browser, then use the shortcut keys "Alt" + "Shift" + "I" to open the feedback window or select the 3 dots in the top right, select Help and feedback, then choose Send feedback (Note that the feedback window will capture the current screen and URL link and email address, and you can add Attachment and record your problem), enter your problem, and click "Send".

Sincerely

Hi Nicholas.

Thanks for your reply.

To be clear, I have always had the "open tabs from the previous session" option turned ON. That is how every day I turn on the computer and open Edge, and all roughly 500 tabs (organized in various categories) are normally there.

It makes no sense to me that Edge does not automatically keep a record of, for example, the past 10 days' worth of tabs that were opened in Edge so that a past session can easily be restored. All the application would need to store is the URL's, and 500 URL's would hardly consume a lot of memory.

Thanks also for your suggestion about leaving feedback, although I doubt that anyone responsible for any free software application reads what users write.

Jay

Hi, Jay S3

Thank you for your response!

I'm sorry that Edge Browser has been a pain in the ass for your experience, and since I'm not a developer, I may not be able to participate in Edge Browser modifications.

you can also submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Huband the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

Hi again, Nicholas.

Sorry for my delay. A numbef of things came up over the past few days.

Your help is appreciated, and although I decided that I had no choice but to start gradually rebuilding my tabs within Edge,

Minutes ago, I created a report in Microsoft Feedback Hub. The link to it is https://aka.ms/AAq7vnk in case you and anyone else want to vote on it.

My request of Microsoft engineers/developers is that there be a double back-up feature with Edge when it comes to tabs so that the existing restore feature has a back-up option if restore does not do the job.

Many thanks again, Nicholas.

Jay

I have the same issue. Usually I could recover all tabs/Groups within the history. Since the Edge update Version 123.0.2420.81 it opened once the history but after the next reboot only the last 12 entries could be recovered without any tabs. I did not delete any profile/history in the browser. Just a reboot within the same day. Now all the Tabs/Groups are lost. If I check in "AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default" the history file is still there but there is no backup as e.g. Bookmarks. All bookmarks have come up the normal way.

Is there a way how to recover this. Profile Syncing is on but I assume the new browser history is already synced to Azure. In the Ms-Account under data protection the browser history is not visible. Syncing is on and up to date.
