How do I force Microsoft Edge (macos) to switch profile or workspace in the same window and not open another in another window

Profile and workspaces are supposed to be switching and not keeping the current windows to open a new one. Seamless profiles/workspaces switching within the same window could be more efficient for tab management. The current behavior of opening a new window on top of existing ones can be confusing and counterproductive.

I have long been using Workona Tab Manager (an Edge Add-ons) and found that their system do this very effectively. You should diffinitely have a look into their system. When I first heard about workspaces in Microsoft Edge, I hoped for a similar experience. However, the current approach doesn’t quite match my expectations.

This feature is supposed to make things simple but indeed it makes everything more complicated by keeping the old window and open a new one. It should be switching in the same window. After seeing this problem I briefly switch to Arc but too bad they do not have Bing AI in the browser, and I am very much dislike the vertical tab btw. Now I am switching back to Edge but profiles and workspaces still create clutter.

The only practical use case for the current implementation to be useful is when you hover to another thing for a while to close it and switch back, not a way to manage complex work. I feel like the current system just open a new one on top of my another projects. It actually open 2 projects at the same time.

If you want to commited to this idea, please make sure workspaces and profiles help users declutter their digital lives.
