Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Basically, STATUS_BREAKPOINT is used only by debuggers and this means encountering a hardware-defined breakpoint

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

  • What is the Windows 10 Version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)

  • What is the make and model of the PC?

  • When do you get this error?

  • What is the complete error message you receive?

  • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

You may refer this article for additional information: Hardware exceptions & NTSTATUS Values

Please help us with more information as this will help us to investigate the issue and guide with the correct troubleshooting steps.

I have this issue also.  I tried resetting Edge, disabling extensions, uninstalling 3rd party A/V, disabling hardware acceleration and few other ideas.  None of these things worked, so I reverted (uninstalled) the new Chromium based Edge back to the old Edge.  This worked.  Feeling good, I tried to re-download the new Edge and re-install.  Unfortunately upon installation, the problem came back.  It's random and intermittent.

For me it's been ongoing with the 1909 release.  I have recently updated to 2004 (final version) from MSDN to see if it would resolve the issue, and it does not.

The PC is fairly high end setup.  Asus Crosshair Hero VIII (Wifi), AMD 3900X processor, 32GB RAM, Asus Strix OC Gaming 2080 TI, 3 X 970 NVME in RAID 0 configuration, and dual Dell U3417W screens.

This error comes up intermittently browsing a page.  I could be on a news site like CNN, or logged into Outlook replying to an Email.  All the sudden it displays and the only option is to refresh the page.

Am I aware of any changes?  No, in fact this was a fresh, fresh install from formatted drive to installation of programs.  It's only a about 3 weeks old.  I have no doubt there is some interfering element.  But what?

I'm not sure if you ready this in my reply.  If I revert to the "old" Edge, there is no issue.  But reinstallation of Chromium based Edge brings back the issue.  That's true for the production and Dev channels.

Thanks -- Read the links, but that Hardware Exception document I already saw and not terribly useful.  The NTSTATUS values I'm not seeing any error code numbers with the error.

Thanks,

Jason

I agree.  One thing common to both our hardware configurations is we both have a higher end NVidia Card.  I have a 2080TI.  I have tried toggling hardware acceleration, but it failed to make a difference.  I also have a Samsumg NVME SSD (970EVO), but I run 3 in RAID 0.

I saw the same references as you.  I'm pretty much underclocking my RAM.  It's DDR4 3200, but I think I'm running it at the stock 2133.  I'll run some memory tests, but I'm also skeptical that it's a RAM issue.

I'd be interested in knowing A/V, software commonality too.  I do have VS 2019 installed, CCCleaner, Acronis Backup and do use the machine for gaming.  Steam, Origin, and others are set to be automatically disabled.  My OS install is pretty fresh, but can tell you upgrading to 2004 does not solve the issue, nor does reinstalling Edge.  But I can also confirm that I have the same error in Chrome itself.

Other browsers like the original Edge and Firefox run fine.  I'm considering switching, because we can't seem to get any attention on this issue.
