Edge replaces special non-english characters to a questionmark when using google as a search engine in the addressbar

Hi!

Me and few of my colleagues are facing an issue when using special characters at the search bar (using google) in the address bar, edge replaces it with a question mark and the search results are not coming back correctly.

For example, I'm trying to search for "tesztelés", which is on hungarian, it will look for tesztel?s instead or if I try to look up an address in Austria and it has a Straße (street) in the search, it will replace the ß with a ? and it fails. Other example letters which are not working: öüóéáűőú $@ß etc. etc.

I tried clearing cookies, removing all the language options, adding new ones, nothing seems to be helping.

Any idea?

Thank you!

Daniel

Hi

Welcome to the Microsoft community.

May I ask if the same problem will appear when searching on Google’s search engine?

This should help us rule out some font-related causes. Although we cannot reproduce your problem on multiple machines,

since many users have encountered the same problem, it is very likely that it is caused by Edge itself.

To confirm whether it is a problem with this version of Edge, could you please create a new Edge Profile and ensure that there are

no Extensions in it, and then see if this problem exists in this Profile.

If it still exists, it is very likely a problem with this version of Edge. You can try to see if it exists in the Canary version.

If it only appears in the Stable version, please report the problem through Alt+Shift+I and wait for the developers to fix the problem.

If there is no such problem in the new Profile, please check whether there are any Extensions in the original Profile that may cause this.

You can try to log out of the old Profile and log back into the new Profile to see if it can replace the old Profile (this can synchronize all data).

Hi Tommy,

If we are using Firefox or Chrome, this issues doesn't appear at all.

It can't be profile based issue since it's not only me who are having the issue but other colleagues as well.

But I tried with a new profile too and same issue.

Unfortunatley I can't report it with Alt+Shift+I because the option is blocked by my company (as many other things in Edge).

Tried it with Canary version as well, same thing... :P

Any other ideas I can try?

Thank you!

Daniel
