Edge - Disable "Close Tab" Button

Hey there

Quite often during the day I accidentally close tabs by hitting the x-button at the right of the tab. This is pretty annoying, even if hitting "<ctrl><shift>t" immediately after, the state of the tab is lost.

So this is a request for a new feature for Edge Chromium, to disable this button to be able to close tabs only by "<ctrl>F4" or clicking with the middle mouse button. Or is this forum the wrong place for feature requests?

best regards,

Matthias

Note: Yes, I am aware that one can pin tabs to disable them from closing, but this is not the solution for me. Pinning tabs is not compatible with grouping tabs which I use for all my tabs.

Hi, thanks for your thoughts on improving Edge. The best way to share feedback directly with the product group is in the browser itself:

Open Microsoft Edge. Click on the Settings & More Ellipsis (…) on the right hand corner and then, select Help & Feedback and select Send Feedback.

Hi Matthias,

In Edge Dev, there is a Flag that enables warn on close. If you accidentally click X, you would be prompted with a confirmation dialog. Expect this to rollout in the future to stable. Looks something like this.

Not a direct solution, but if you press CTRL-SHFT-T it will open the last closed tab. So, you could hit that to reopen the accidentally closed tab. At least while waiting for new features...
