Edge and Chrome Fail To Launch after Windows 11 Update

Today I update to Windows 11, version 23H2. Prior to this today, MS Edge and Google Chrome worked with no problems. Now, they launch a window that immediately closes. I restarted and checked my running processes and tasks. Still the same. Firefox and Opera function with no problems. Is anyone else seeing this?

Answer

I had a customer come to my shop with this issue, They also using Norton 360.

The issue for them was the Norton 360 extension they had running on Chrome and Edge

here are the steps that may help you

Google Chrome

Navigate to:

C:\Users\"your Username"\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

open the extensions folder and delete all the folders in it.

Open Chrome and see if it remains open

Edge

Navigate to:

C:\Users\"your Username"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

open the extensions folder and delete all the folders in it.

Open Edge and see if it remains open

if you don't see AppData folder you must enable view hidden items in your file explorer

just under the bar where you can move the windows around, there is an option for "view" Select that, then select the hidden items option.
