Do Microsoft Edge show search history when tapping on the search bar on android?

Hello,

I recently switched from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge in my Android phone. Google Chrome had a feature which is when we tap on the search bar in the home page to search something is displays the the browsing history in a list format, which is often helpful as it allows to jump right back into something which I searched earlier, or makes me remember about my previous queries.

When I tap on the search bar in the Microsoft Edge home page, it displays only the websites shortcut icons which are already visible on the home page and nothing else. This is quite a issue for me, as it don't allow me to quickly get back to my past searches fast but I also forget about my past searches, which in turn decreases my productivity quite a bit.

I know I can Tap on the 3 Lines at the lower right corner-then history- to view my search history but it is quite inconvenient for a casual regular use.

I have tried uploading images for reference purposes here, but the upload is keep getting failed, so I have uploaded 2 images in google drive, they have public permissions, link to view them is below.

Hi Samadrita,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Microsoft Edge does not show the search history when tapping on the search bar on Android by default. However, you can enable this feature by following these steps:

- Tap on the three horizontal dots to open the context menu of Edge.

- Now tap on the Settings icon.

- Select "General", "Show search history"

Once you do this, you will be able to see your search history when you tap on the search bar on the home page of Edge. But it will not be displayed directly. You need to enter keywords in the history, and it will display the websites and search records you have visited before. However, you can view your search history by tapping on the three lines at the lower right corner, then selecting "History."

You can also sync your history and tabs across your devices by signing in with your Microsoft account and turning on the sync option in the settings.

I hope this helps you to improve your browsing experience with Microsoft Edge. If you have any other questions or feedback, please feel free to ask me.

Your Sincerely

Thank you Hahn for your reply,

I would like to clarify that there exists no such option as "Show Search History" under "Settings-General" aleast in my Android Device.

I know it starts showing my previously visited website once I enter some keywords in the Search Bar.

It will be really helpful if Edge can display my last 10 searches maybe after I tap on the Search Bar but it is blank, and then as soon as I enter some keywords it should start filtering out my history and also suggest relevant sites. I think this behaviour is accurate for most of us.

I wish Microsoft to get this message.

Regards,

Samadrita
