Chromium Edge auto login problems

Hello,

Although I am enjoying the new Edge Chromium edition, I am unable to save my passwords and therefore auto login to websites without some third-party extensions. Can someone inform me on how to automatically sign in to my favorites sites without such extensions?

Sincerely,

JayBurch1

PS:

I already tried to reset Edge and made a futile effort with switching profiles.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

  • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)

  • What is the version of Edge installed on the PC? (Open Edge > click on (…) dots from top right corner > click on Settings > Click on About Microsoft edge from the left pane).

  • Are you trying this for the first time on Edge or were you doing it earlier?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge

  2. Click on the three dots (…) from the right top corner.

  3. Select Settings from the drop down and click on Profile from the left pane.

  4. Click on Passwords

  5. Toggle the switch to On beside Offer to save passwords and Sign in Automatically.

Note: We would suggest you to first remove the webpage from favorites and then perform the above steps later add it to favorite. Also, make sure that you are signed to Edge and sync is on.

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we will certainly assist you further.

The credentials issue was supposed to be resolved in Feb Patches. Is your OS fully updated?

I have same problem too. I've just installed last version of Edge Android but still cannot sync passwords. Problem in "edge://sync-internals" is about credentials with three red error column (autofills and password). Using Android 11 Galaxy S20.

Is one of them KB4601319? Because that is the only February patch that I installed, and that didn't work either.

Windows Version: 20H2

Edge Version: 89.0.774.48

The auto login worked earlier on former versions of Edge.

Also, I already checked the settings you advised me to check with no luck.

The antivirus I use is the default Windows Security. Why do you ask?

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

We would like to know if you are able to save the password in other browser. Also, create a new Edge profile and then check:

  1. Press Win + R keys to open up the Run dialog box.

  2. Type %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data and press enter.

  3. Move the Default folder to Desktop or rename to Default.old.

  4. Launch Microsoft Edge. That will create a new default folder.

I just tried that, but although the passwords are saved, I still can't automatically login through any of them. Are there any advanced or hidden settings that I should know about involving auto login? Even settings outside of Edge Chromium would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

In this scenario, we would suggest you to create a new user account with administrative rights and check if it re-occurs in Edge. Creating a new user account will not remove any data, app or settings from your current user account, this is just a troubleshooting steps to eliminate the possibility of user profile corruption. Refer this article to create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
