Black text on black background in YT - Windows 11 - Microsoft Edge

When was the last time it worked properly?

Please try this if it helps.

Open Edge browser > click 3 dots > Settings
Select Appearance then click Light
Close Edge browser
Open again then set the Appearance to Dark
Please check if the issue persists.

I am still getting the issue.

When was the last time it worked properly?

A week ago maybe a bit longer.

Please try the following methods below.

1. Please try to update your Microsoft Edge browser
Open Edge > Click 3 dots > Help and Feedback > About Microsoft Edge

2. Clear cache and cookies
Open Edge > Click 3 dots > Settings
Select Privacy, search, and services > Under Clear browsing history
Click Choose what to clear
Select your preferred Time Range and items to clear
Click Clear Now

3. Disable or Uninstall Edge extensions
Open Edge > Click 3 dots > Extensions
Please check if one of your extensions is causing the issue

If the issue still persists, you may need to consider performing a Reset of Edge Chromium.

Open Edge then click 3 dots > Settings
Select Reset Settings > Restore settings to their default values
Click Reset
Restart your computer

UPDATE!

And a little while later I found it!

In the address bar in Edge type: edge://flags/#enable-force-dark

It will bring up the following screen. If yours is "default" or "enabled" on this change it to "Enabled with selective inversion of everything", also click the "#enable-force-dark" on there.

This worked perfect for me, I'm still puzzled about how this all started the other day.... 🤔

YES! This is it! Everything I found in official support or on Reddit was either standard troubleshooting that yielded no results or the problem "fixing" itself after a week or two for most people. I ran this change, and it immediately fixed the issue (and made some previous "light mode" sites dark, which is a win).

Edit: it's not perfect, as it does mess with how some profile pictures and emojis display, but honestly well-worth the tradeoff.

Edit 2: Got it. Instead of "Enabled with selective inversion of everything," use "Enabled with selective inversion of non-image elements."

Yeah, it's not perfect but it beats the way it was on mine. You can try some of the other choices on there as well.

I just created the black text on black background problem today when commenting on youtube. Text appeared black-on-black but reverted to normal white text on black background when the youtube comment was posted. The link mentioned above (and posted below) fixed it as far as I can tell.

What caused this using Windows 10? I do not exactly know, but I am fairly positive it was because the heavy cuff on my winter jacket was pressing/holding along one of the keyboard's keys along the row of keys to the right of the space bar (while pressing another keyboard key).

I heard a single high pitched ring (sort of like Super Mario snatching a gold coin?) and a dialog box popped up. I didn't read it and cleared it with the "X" in the top right corner of the box with the mouse.

Should I have any more probs, I will probably just reset Edge to its factory default settings.
