I am unable to highlight a word, phrase or paragraph and see the highlighting. There is no contract?!?

I've installed Word on my new Mac Pro, but when I select a word, phrase, or the entire document, I can't see what I've highlighted?!? There is no color or contrast. Any suggestions?
This is a known bug that appears to happen only on certain models of Mac. Please click on the smiley-face icon in the upper right corner of the Word window, choose Tell Us What Can Be Better, describe the problem and send it to Microsoft. I recommend also including the model information of your Mac as well. Every additional complaint turns up the pressure.

In addition to John's instructions (go by his First). 

  1. Go to  Menu.

  2. System Preferences.

  3. General.

  4. Follow direction in annotation in this screenshot:


  5. It's Possible choose a Different color might work better. I choose Green which suited my eyes. 
    Here is Color pallet for Highlight choices. This is one Perk in Yosemite I like:

  6. When you click on other... you open Color Picker and can several hundred different hues of colors.

Let us know one way or the other if this helps. It may not be a cure for a Bug. But might serve as a workaround until bug is fixed.
