The search feature does not work for me in Outlook 2016 for Mac when connected to an Exchange account (with local cache), whereas Outlook 2011 has no issues whatsoever.
I have reinstalled to no avail, a Microsoft support rep has remote "assisted" me only to conclude that I should phone Microsoft support, and all attempts to do so and wait have ended up disconnected..
Anybody have any ideas? Unfortunately it doesn't look like the database can be recreated as per Outlook 2011. And to think, this is meant to be a 'release' version for us unlucky Office365 subscribers!!
