Search does not work in Outlook 2016 for Mac (Exchange account)

The search feature does not work for me in Outlook 2016 for Mac when connected to an Exchange account (with local cache), whereas Outlook 2011 has no issues whatsoever.

I have reinstalled to no avail, a Microsoft support rep has remote "assisted" me only to conclude that I should phone Microsoft support, and all attempts to do so and wait have ended up disconnected..

Anybody have any ideas? Unfortunately it doesn't look like the database can be recreated as per Outlook 2011. And to think, this is meant to be a 'release' version for us unlucky Office365 subscribers!!

Typically a spotlight issue.
The solution would be to open the Spotlight Prefpane, to add the ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook 15 Profiles/Main Profile folder to the privacy list there, wait some time, then remove it to force-reindex.

If that's not enough, you can try using the following command in the Terminal:
mdimport ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook 15 Profiles/Main Profile

You're are right and nothing is working at the moment, and it's not a Spotify bug.

I've got the same issue.  One of my project folders On My Computer has hundreds of emails over a period of several months and it's unbelievable that I can't search for the one I need!  Works just fine in the Windows version.

This Microsoft Office for Mac 2016 suite is nothing but frustration.  The only reason I've not gone back to the 2011 Outlook version is because it crashes continually in El Capitan.  Outlook for Mac 2011 also doesn't allow me to propose a new time when responding to an invitation either, so I'm sticking with the newer version.  But Microsoft really has to help us out here with all of these issues!  And no, I'm not going back to Windows!!!

Has any updates fixed this issue yet? I have the same problem I have 13,000 emails and I used it like a filing cabinet. Now that I upgraded from 2011 to 2016 Mac. I can't find anything. i have to search on my iphone then forward it to myself to get to the email I need.

I have the same problem on one machine and not another machine.

Both are 10.11 and were both freshly reinstalled from scratch.

from another post, using the following console command has solved the issue and reindexed the mailbox it seems:

mdimport32 ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook\ 15\ Profiles/Main\ Profile

after running that on the console, and letting it run for a few minutes, i could open outlook and search.

This is a bug though, because a brand new install of osx 10.11, a brand new and patched install of office 2016 and the behaviour still exists.
