Microsoft program worked in Windows 7 but does not work in Windows 10

Microsoft Money 2002 worked on Windows 7. It does not open with Windows 10, stating that it needs IE 5.5 SP1 to work. Any ideas. I use MS Money and would give up Windows 10 to get it back.

IE 11 is loaded up, but the software in my case asks for IE 5.5 SP 1.  I've noticed many people also saying MS Money no longer works with Windows 10 and it is asking for IE6. If there isn't a fix, I will switch back to my old version of Windows 7 as MS Money is a program that I really like and use.  I've also tried loading the MS Money deluxe plus Sunset, but that comes up with an error message that Autorun is missing or corrupt.
Added note: I did contact Microsoft when I first learned of the free upgrade and I was told it should work. That was not a very confident answer using the word "should". Well from the many posts I've seen many others have the same problem.

I got Money 2002 working with a simple registry item fix (found elsewhere)

goto

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Change Version from 9.11.10240.16384 to 9.11.10240.0

Hi Alan.

Thank you but it did not work.

My version in the registry was 9.000 and I copy and pasted 9.11.10240.0 into that spot. I rebooted...no luck.

Ever since upgrading to the free Windows 10, MS Money 2002 quit working.

I purchased Quicken 2015 as it was supposed to open .mny files. BUT after purchasing it only imports only 2007/2008 versions.

I then bought a copy of MS Money 2007.

Trying to load that comes up with "Autorun.inf" missing or corrupted.

I then ran System File Checker. SFC/scannow.  It came up with no problems..."Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

I contacted Microsoft support and they called me back after 2 hours, the estimated time they said they would.

Person I spoke with said I should download IE 11.0, but could not give me the exact link as he said he had limited resources.

I was transferred to technical so I could be given that information. I was on "hold" for over 1 1/2 hours.

During that time I located IE 11 that would work on windows 7 (64bit). That did not work either.

AFTER THE 1 1/2 HOURS OF HOLDING...I gave up and hung up.

Microsoft Edge symbol and IE symbol are very similar but different. I have both loaded now.

Very disappointed that Microsoft releases a product (Windows 10) that that messed up my other Microsoft product MS Money 2002...even though it was an old version.

Currently with this free upgrade....I spent around $80 and a good 4 hours or more trying to load and reload software.

Sorry I did this upgrade.

Best part Microsoft send survey asking if I liked Windows 10.

Imagine going on a vacation and having a child get sick. You attention is focused on this sick child. Hard to enjoy the vacation....

I certainly don't like it so far having to deal with a "sick" computer when before the upgrade it was fine.

Currently waiting for Microsoft Support to contact me on Tuesday as I have set up a time frame for them to call.

It looks like many others are affected with similar issues like mine.

I am worried that if this doesn't get resolved with Windows 10, that when I switch back to Windows 7 (if I can't get it to work in Windows 10)  it won't work when I go back!

Tried the fix via RegEdit, but the suffix\Internet Explorer was missing. Any ideas, as Win 10 tells me that IE11 is installed? My copy of Money had also asked for IE6.

Hi Alan.

THANK YOU!

It took me a few different steps to get MS Money 2007 to load.

Somehow my Autorun file got corrupted.  I just renamed it and I was able to load the software.

Then your fix came into play as it was looking for IE 6.

When I saw a couple people said your fix worked, I looked at where I had changed it. I did it in the wrong spot. I went to Version vector since I assumed version was there. Your version is right at the top end for IE.

Once I changed what you said, it worked!

Now i will see if I want to keep Quicken if it does import these files.

Thanks again!

Bob

The change of the version did not solve the problem, on my PC.

I originally changed it in the wrong area. There is an area at the bottom where it lists Version Vector.

After changing the version to what Alan suggested my MS Money was able to open instead of asking for Internet Explorer 6. Just click Internet Explorer (following Alan's steps)...that's where I saw Version and changed it.

Good luck with yours.
