Build 10130, TH1 Professional 10240 fails with 0x800703ed.

I had newer build but it was failing to start properly, so I did point restore. Actually twice.

Now it fails to upgrade at all.

Any advice?

PS I use dual-boot Win10 + Ubuntu derivative (so GRUB2) on plain old MBR.

1)

  • Once WU said that 10240 is installing, AMD driver is downloading (constantly at 99%), but it was like that for at lest 20h...
  • After shutdown WU is downloading, readying 10240 and give me that error, all taking maybe 2 minutes., retrying just give same results.

2)

  • Installed few games.
  • Installed few updates from Win10 Update
  • Rolled back twice to 10130 as newer updates (and/or AMD driver updates) caused unbootable Win

Method 1:

"Service registration is missing or corrupt"

Method 2:

When running Fix it:

"Service registration is missing or corrupt"

When running it manually:

I get message that some of those may not be correct dlls, while some are missing outright!

The problem is not in the Windows Update service , it's in the updait TH1 240 .

Uninstaling an another updait and new install works normal.

I fixed for me this issue. The problem was in multi-boot. I had GRUB2 boot loader, so the update was unable to determine active windows partition(GRUB was in other active linux boot partition) .

I activated the Windows system partition , boot from CD, Recovery -> Advanced options -> Fix boot.

Then I've started Update again and now it is installing.

Yeah. Thought about that myself.

Used this to repair partition:

http://superuser.com/questions/241739/windows-7-cannot-boot-bootrec-reports-fs-not-found-or-corrupt

This to bring back BCD:

http://windowsitpro.com/systems-management/build-bootable-bcd-scratch-bcdedit

Works like a charm.

PS Where can I find such logs, they are very descriptive....

Update logs are in hidden folder

%SYSTEMDRIVE%\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\

Every update clears the directory.
