[SOLVED] Windows 9x-style Start menu in Windows 10!!!!

Unbelievable! You can actually have a very old-school, classic 1-column Start menu in Windows 10!

All you have to do is to stop complaining about Live Tiles, open Start menu, right-click each Live Tile, and click Unpin from Start! The default dozen tiles take barely 30 seconds. Now, you can enjoy life as if Windows 8, "Modern UI", and other nightmares never happened. See screenshot for proof:

You do not seem to have that option if you pin something yourself (I dragged and dropped a chrome link and do not have the option to unpin from start) and am currently searching for the location.

Yes. The contextual menu (right-click) option to pin to Start menu (instead of Start "page"/"screen") is missing. However, you can pin anything to the Start "screen" and then drag'n'drop it onto the top section of Start menu to pin it there.

The physical location of shortcuts is the same as it has been since Vista:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu

Of course, because putting start menu stuff in the IE folder makes sense.  Thanks for the location.

Edit:  Did not remove the tile for chrome, but did allow me to select unpin from start.

My guess it's actually Win98 legacy - Quick Launch Bar was likely a part of Active Desktop, which was managed through IE.

well is just the same without all the tiles   it isnt really a good start menu   to change to last build style which was much better:

EnableXamlStartMenu
1.?Right click on the Start Button and select "Run"
2.Type "regedit"
3.Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>Advance
4.Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value, call it "EnableXamlStartMenu"
5.Restart

This displays the start menu, but will not toggle back to the desktop with the bottom-left mouse click... only with the Win key.  Suggestions?
