Delivery Optimization eating drive

There is a folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DeliveryOptimization that is growing by gigbytes in windows 10.  I notice there is a service also running for DeliveryOptimization.  Do I need this service?  Can I delete the contents of the folder?  I have a stand alone PC.

Thanks.

Answer

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10 Insider Preview.

DeliveryOptimization is a folder where Windows stores old versions. Due to the constant updates you might be facing this issue..

Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type cleanmgr, and click/tap on OK to open Disk Cleanup.

If you have more than one drive or partition on your PC, then select the Windows C: drive or the drive letter you wanted to clean, and click/tap on OK .

It is not recommended to delete the folder as this might affect future updates.

Hope this helps.
