PC How-To: "Not Being Offered a New Build" Troubleshooting

Hello Insiders,

One of the scenarios that come up on occasion is "not being offered a new build".  There has been a lot of work put into the flighting system to help prevent this from happening, however it may be necessary to do some deeper digging to troubleshoot.

If you find that your PC isn't being offered the latest flight and you think it should be, please review the steps below:

  • Settings > Windows Insider Program
    • At the top does it say “You’re all set to get Insider Preview Builds”?
    • Branch set to RS_Prerelease?
    • Opted into the Fast ring?
    • Is the Microsoft Account (MSA) at the bottom of this page the correct account you have registered to receive Insider builds?
  • Settings > Windows Update
    • Check for updates
      • Are updates found?
      • Any error codes?
  • Additional items to review:
    • Have you recently changed rings?
      • Can take up to 30 minutes to be targeted for a build after a ring change
    • Have you recently reset your PC, done a fresh install, or changed Microsoft Accounts?
      • If so, it can take up to 24 hours for your machine to be targeted for a new flight
  • If you have reviewed the above and are still not being offered a flight:
    • Please file a new feedback item
    • Obtain the link to your feedback in the Feedback Hub
    • Share the link to your feedback with us!
      • Start a thread here in the Answers forum
      • Reach out to us on Twitter!  @WindowsInsider
  • If none of the above have resolved your issue, you may do a direct update by using the latest Insider ISO
    • ISO files can be downloaded here:  (link)

These steps should provide the resolution you're looking for. If you encounter any additional issues, please do start a thread for discussion or reach out to us on Twitter!

Thank you as always,
Jason
