Can't Update to Windows 10 16215 - Inaccessible Boot disk error

I've been trying to upgrade to the latest build 3 times now, and been getting the Green Screen of Death with the Inaccessible Boot disk error.

The only thing that has changed since the last build was an update for firmware for my boot drive, did that have anything to do with it going crazy like this?

Who would know if this firmware update on your drive caused the GSOD... how long is a piece of string?

It would make sense to consider that drive firmware update is responsible for your problem especially if it was the only thing updated outside of windows OS.

No doubt you can't roll back the drive firmware neither once it has been updated. You may have to reinstall Windows OS from scratch to get things to align with this drive firmware update.

Re: "Unable to Install Going Back to Previous Version"

Present build : 16199

My present build of 16199 was working fine.

Download and install of 16215 stated fine and then got error message "Unable to Download and Install Going back to Previous version"

Now I am back to 16199 again.

So you may be able to rest knowing that it might not be your recently updated firmware on your drive.

This just failed on my laptop with same on first attempt, I am now on the second attempt with virus and unnecessary software and apps disabled.

Funnily enough this installed on the first attempt on my Surface Pro 3 which I am using to reply on, even with a 64G SD Card inserted, TypeCover attached, wireless connection and on power.

edit

the second attempt failed on my laptop. I have one more item to disable which is part of a dual boot backup recovery partition. Gut feeling says it may be a dual booting issue with this other non-OS software.

HDD is Intel SSD

I expect it isn't the firmware... same issue here, also with a Samsung SSD

(Though install failed in a similar way albeit without the GSOD on a surface pro 4 too)

Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 64-bit-16199.100

Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz

16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3

Motherboard-Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B75M-D3H

Graphics-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Storage-1863GB Seagate ST2000DX001-1NS164 (SATA) :1863GB Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 (SATA):3726GB Seagate Expansion Desk SCSI Disk

I've gone through the update process twice, both times had the "inaccessible boot device" error message and the last attempt I also got an error code 0x80070057.

On the second upgrade attempt, I disconnected my external hard drive  and disabled my antivirus software, I did leave my USB wireless connected.

The OS drive is on a  Seagate hard drive, I had had no issues with insider preview editions until now.

Third update try failed same results, disconnected external HD, USB WIFI, Logitech Mouse, turned off Norton anti-virus

Got the same problem... Samsung nvme sm951 on ASUS-Z97-A (with PCIE-x4 card). Tried to uninstall Samsung nvme driver and use native one, same problem. Next I will try to uninstall Samsung Magician and try updating again.

Anyone here also uses Acronis True image 2017? might be worth uninstalling as well to try. I will update here if I got it working.
