Blue Screen During 10565 Download/Install? Please post here.

If you are on a Dell Venue 8 Pro (or other similar form factor device), please review the blog notes.  You will not be able to install this build due to a known issue that will cause the install to hang and then roll back.  If you fall into this category, this is a known situation and you will need to wait for a future build to update.

PC Insiders,

We've seen a few reports that users are seeing blue screen errors during the download or install of build 10565.  We'll be actively looking at error logs that come in via telemetry and would like your feedback on your machine setup so we can isolate the potential cause.

If you're experiencing this issue, please post in this thread and share the following information:

  • What machine type do you have? (ex:  Dell XPS 13)
  • Current build number prior to download? (ex:  10240, 10547)
  • Which (if any) anti-virus software clients do you have installed?

Also, please share the the "bucket ID" of the crash being seen.  To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open Start
  2. Type "Reliability History" and open the control panel feature
  3. (Reliability Monitor will generate a report, please wait while this happens)
  4. In the list of recent events, please locate the new failed update error
  5. Click "View technical details"
  6. The bucket ID should be listed on this screen.  Share this bucket ID along with the other items requested above

Hi,

TP 10565 Failed for me during the installation. It got to about 6% "copying files" then got the blue screen. It automatically restarted and is restoring the previous version of Windows.

1. Surface 3 LTE

2. The version that was restored is 10.0.10547

3. No third party anti-virus software, just what is installed with MS Windows.

I see several events from today:

th2_release Core 10565, Failed Windows Update, 10/12/15 1:48PM

Technical Details:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: th2_releasae Core 10565.

I don't see a bucket ID.

After that there were three critical events:

Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process Stopped Working 1:43PM

BucketID: 72455a6ae42f6ce05dbafa0adb297271 (116020165233)

Diagnostics Tracking Services Stopped Working 2:49PM

BucketID: 8c475311f0466b4e5e17fbc721f199ff (120326051481)

Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process Stopped Working 2:49PM

I have an HP G72-b66us with i3-370 processor.  The upgrade to 10565 from 10547 proceeded to about 50% and then the system generated an error message stating that some windows components could not be installed, and asked for a reboot.  Upon rebooting the system reinstalled 10547.

No error message. on 2nd or 3rd reboot return to normal 10547 login.

8024200D is the error for a corrupt download.  Would recommend rebooting and retrying.

If this happens again upon retry, please post back up.

Jason[MS] from Microsoft...  After 4 more BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH events, I just disabled updates through GPEDIT.MSC (Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Configure Automatice Updates = Disabled).

Thank goodness for my Forum friends who quickly gave me a solution.  Can I depend on you to update this post when the problem is resolved and I can turn updates back on?
